The United States is smack in between two Indigenous revolutions. Is anybody in the U.S. Native media paying attention?? The Try-Works got it out yesterday, but where was the Native press? Again, the Native press is missing.

So, here we go again everybody.

Not only is the Six Nations Confederacy under siege in Caledonia, Canada, now the EZLN (Zapatistas) has called for a general red alert and call to arms against the Mexican government.

Evidently, Presidente Fox hasn’t learned anything the entire time he has held office about how to work along with the Mexican Indian population. After promising to work alongside the Indigenous population in a spirit of fairness, Fox has since the beginning reneged on all of his promises to effectively address the Zapatistas call for non-invasive measures by the Mexicans into Indigenous territories.

Fox’s response? Troops, Tanks and soldiers, (many of them Aboriginal) converging on Zapatista communities like white on rice sticking their weapons in people’s faces demanding that they stand down.

Well the women did not stand down and with rocks and sticks, (And White people from the States with camcorders) the army backed down but still maintain a perimeter that at times can become a free fire zone. And they ask why we call it struggle.

Quick refresher on why the EZLN is taking arms against the colonial Mexican state:

The Zapatistas are not attempting to overthrow the Mexican government. Any claims to this and other assertions of seditious sentiment are patently false.

The Zapatista position in political terms can be summed up as Indigenist/Indigenismo, a standpoint that places Indigenous life-ways and theoretical paradigms at the centre of its philosophy. The EZLN is not communist, socialist or any other bastardization of what is regarded as the political left or right. Indigenist principles do not conform to the Eurocentric political scale and should not be expected to.

The Zapatistas and their supporters are not an offensive organisation. Armed struggle as undertaken by the EZLN has been of a defensive nature in response to overwhelming physical and political force used against the Indigenous people of Mexico.

Let’s see how long it takes before the Native press gets around to discussing this one?
