Rising Hegemon: Will Charle Gibson or George Stephanapolis ask

Rising Hegemon: Will Charle Gibson or George Stephanapolis ask: "John McCain about his associations with GOP candidates like Tony Zirkle?

Indiana politician Tony Zirkle is in a heap of trouble after this photos of him celebrating Hilter's birthday surfaced on Monday.

Hilter's birthday is on 4/20, so while the stoners were getting high; the Nazi's were celebrating Adolf's 119th.

Right in the middle of the festivities was Zirkle spoke to about 60 neo-Nazi's/ white surpremacists in Chicago.

Zirkle is a candidate for the Republican nomination for United States Congress in Indiana's 2nd district.

I'm guessing, based on this picture, that Zirkle (that's him speaking) will deny any knowledge of what this group was about."

Dishonourable Killings! « A Thinking Man

This comes in from our friendly correspondent Stephe: Dishonourable Killings! « A Thinking Man: "An inquest heard this week that Asian student, Shafilea Ahmed, aged 17, from Warrington, Cheshire, UK, was probably murdered in 2003. Pathologist Dr. Alison Armour said: “The most likely cause of death is strangulation or smothering.” Prior to her disappearance she had returned from Pakistan where she had rejected an arranged marriage. To date, no one has actually been charged over the murder. Although the case remains open, one possibility considered by police is that Shafilea was the victim of an ‘honour killing’. If this murder turns out to be such a one, it will add to the growing number in Great Britain. One estimate is that there are 12 ‘honour killings’ in the UK each year.

Sadly, ‘honour killing’ is a worldwide phenomenon, that thanks to global communication, is now receiving more attention."

The Black Commentator - Sean Bell Verdict Complicates Things for Obama

The Black Commentator - Sean Bell Verdict Complicates Things for Obama: "This Special Edition report was published about 7pm on Friday, April 25, 2008. When a story warrants publication at a time other than our normal Thursday publication day, we send out a special publication email notice. If you don't want to miss a breaking story from BC, please click here to get on our free email list.

The acquittal, Friday, April 25th 2008, of the 3 police officers accused of killing Sean Bell in November of 2006 will complicate Barack Obama’s efforts to win the presidency in November 2008. His candidacy already mired in the racial machinations of his opponents, Hillary Clinton and John McCain, Obama will find himself having to maneuver between the need to speak out on the most egregious, high profile example of institutional racism and police brutality since the Rodney King Incident and the need to deflect Clinton and McCain’s racialized attacks aimed at fomenting white fear of blacks and other non-whites."

Crooks and Liars » GOP Candidate Tony Zirkle Wishes Adolf a Happy Birthday

Crooks and Liars » GOP Candidate Tony Zirkle Wishes Adolf a Happy Birthday: "On Sunday, Tony Zirkle, a Republican candidate for Indiana’s 2nd District, took time out from saving the economy by shredding vintage Playboys (of course!) so he could attend a 119th birthday celebration for Adolf Hitler. He claims he was only there to talk about his experience as a state’s attorney in Indiana, his wacky theories about pornography, and to preach the gospel, so of course his being there had absolutely nothing to do with his segregation plan that would allow blacks to “have six states, so instead of having one half-black senator, well they would have 12.”

Now it turns out that the St. Joseph County Republican Party is trying to distance itself from Zirkle. I wonder why?"
------------------------------------------

"Most of the male porn stars were Jewish at the beginning," Zirkle explained.
Now the male porn stars are mostly black, he claimed, and the women who appear in pornographic works tend to be "young, white, Christian women."
If people think he is targeting the Jews, he said, they are misinterpreting his position. He is targeting, Zirkle said, the "porn dragon" that inspires Jews to get involved in pornography.

What the HELL is wrong with this guy?

The Adolf Hitler doll which comes with a change of clothes - and a spare head with a kind face | the Daily Mail

Recommended Viewing from the BBC: The Adolf Hitler doll which comes with a change of clothes - and a spare head with a kind face | the Daily Mail: "An action-man style doll of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler has gone on sale in the Ukraine, with saleswomen comparing the doll to Barbie.

Supermarkets in the capital Kiev are stocking the 40 centimetre high figure of the fuhrer, complete with jackboots, leather trench-coat and swastika armband.

The £100 figure has a spare head 'with a kind expression on it,' glasses and several changes of clothes. The doll will also come with accessories like a miniature Blondi, Hitler's faithful Alsatian who died alongside the Nazi in his bunker in Berlin in 1945.

The doll is dressed in long light-brown cloak, military uniform and jackboots.

According to the saleswoman, should the demand be high, manufacturers will go further and launch a series of themed Third Reich toys, including interiors of Hitler's chancellery, toy concentration camps with barbed wire, barracks and operating models of gas chambers and crematoriums."

Indianz.Com > News > Opinion: Cherokee Nation's boat of federal funds: "The following is the opinion of Steve Osburn, a Cherokee/Delaware from Oklahoma.

When it comes to the Freedmen, Cherokee Nation Chief Chad Smith keeps saying 'Let the courts decide this case,' when they already have. The Cherokee Supreme Court ruled that the Freedmen are Cherokee citizens. But he ignored that decision because it didn't go the way he thought it would.

Smith strips other tribes of their federal funding and recognition, like he did to the Delaware Tribe. So what's the big deal -- are Indian leaders only outraged when it happens to the Cherokee Nation? They never stood up and scolded Smith for doing for doing this to the Delawares.

Smith doesn't care if another tribe's federal funds or recognition are taken away but he expects everyone to jump up and down and throw a fit when it's happening to his tribe because he doesn't want the federal government to cut off his flow of money.

He's already ruined the Shawnee Tribe when they separated from the Cherokee Nation, and he's attempting to do even more damage to the Delawares with promises of regaining our federal recognition if he can control all of our federal funding. We said 'NO!' to that idea."

Aboriginal Slavery: Land Reform Agents Try to Free Indians from Servitude in Bolivia

Q&A: Land Reform Agents Try to Free Indians from Servitude in Bolivia: "LA PAZ, Apr 24 (IPS) - Alto Parapetí, a rural area in the eastern Bolivian province of Santa Cruz, is caught up in a dispute between large landowners and the government, which is trying to free more than 2,700 Guaraní Indians from a state of servitude.

Forty inspectors from the National Institute of Agrarian Reform (INRA) are attempting to draw up a land registry in the area and restore the land rights of 19 indigenous communities in the area.

Alto Parapetí, in the province of Cordillera, is located 1,200 km southeast of the administrative capital, La Paz.

The inspectors’ access to the disputed land, where Guaraní families are living in a state of servitude and forced labour on remote estates, according to the ombudsman’s office and human rights groups, has been blocked by local landowners.

The medium and large landholders have the backing of the local government and the pro-business Santa Cruz Civic Committee, who are staunch opponents of the leftwing government of indigenous President Evo Morales.

The presence of government inspectors in the area has fanned the flames of a conflict with the Morales administration, which is attempting to regularise land ownership and redistribute idle or fraudulently obtained land (involving expropriation with economic compensation) in the extensive plains and forests of Bolivia’s Chaco region, which covers the eastern and southeastern portions of the provinces of Santa Cruz, Chuquisaca and Tarija.

But the government’s land reform efforts have run into stiff opposition from the powerful agribusiness interests and landowners in the relatively wealthy eastern part of the country, who have accumulated huge extensions of fertile farmland and property rich in natural gas and water, which has served as the basis of their political power. Not only will the 2010 games contribute to the destruction of territory that lawfully belongs to Coast Salish First Nations, Vancouver’s homeless population have good reason to fear being swept up by Olympic fervor – literally, as the city conducts a “clean sweep” of public place dwellers, sex workers, and other marginalized people.

Nicole Iaquinto | March 25, 2008 - 4:04 pm

Since the end of state sponsored segregation in the 1954
with Brown v. Board of Education decision,
the prevailing myth of American prosperity has convinced the people that there
are no structural racial barriers to keep minorities from reaching the American
dream. Fancy cars, stately houses prestigious educations, high powered jobs,
and a life of material wealth is available to all who work hard enough to
achieve it. According to this mindset, it is thought that all individuals have
the freedom of social mobility. These individuals, despite race or class, are
believed to have the ability to live anywhere they please, working their way up
from low income areas to the suburbs if they so desire. In light of this claim,
I feel it is my responsibility to challenge this potentially dangerous
ideology."

pudgyindian2: Again, U.S. Ramping Up Genocide Against Iran: "It is obvious by reading the news that the U.S. is again ramping up it's false accusations against Iran to start it's genocidal campaign against said nation. Why?

The U.S. is currently accusing Iran of building a nuclear weapons program and sending terrorists into Iraq to 'kill Americans.' And we all know you can believe what the U.S. government tells us because they were right in telling us of Saddam Hussein's 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' and his involvement with Al Queda. Oh, wait, there were no weapons of mass destruction (which Dick Cheney STILL says there were) and Saddam had NO involvement with Al Queda. So you know the U.S. must be telling the truth when they are saying Iraq is building a nuclear weapons program and sending terrorists into Iraq to kill Americans."

3 Detectives Acquitted in Bell Shooting - New York Times: "Three detectives were found not guilty Friday on all charges in the shooting death of Sean Bell, who died in a hail of 50 police bullets outside a club in Jamaica, Queens, in November 2006. The verdict prompted calls for calm from the mayor, angry promises of protests by those speaking for the Bell family and expressions of relief by the detectives. Detective Michael Oliver, who fired 31 bullets the night of the shooting and faced manslaughter charges, said Justice Arthur J. Cooperman had made a “fair and just decision.”

Justice Cooperman delivered the verdict in State Supreme Court at 9 a.m. Describing the evidence, he said it was reasonable for the detectives to fear that someone in the crowd that night carried a gun. He added that many of the prosecution’s witnesses, including Mr. Bell’s friends and the two wounded victims, were simply not believable. “At times, the testimony of those witnesses just didn’t make sense,” the judge said."

However, given the current climate in Texas criminal appellate law ('the only error is harmless error'), I'd say the chances are good this warrant would hold up, assuming we even get to the stage of holding criminal trials. Right now, we don't even have any alleged perpetrators named (other than Barlow, of course), much less any arrests. And, of course, the warrant is meaningless for purposes of removal, since DFPS doesn't need a warrant, valid or otherwise, to remove children."

Trudell believes the FBI inserted an operative into AIM's ranks and that the operative was responsible for starting the June 26, 1975, shootout on the Jumping Bull ranch near Oglala, S.D., that led to the deaths of two FBI agents, Jack Coler and Ron Williams, and AIM member Joe Stuntz.

The FBI deliberately attacked the AIM camp at the ranch, expecting reinforcements from a nearbly BIA swat team, Trudell said."

CENSORED NEWS: Yankton police officer quits job, arrested, at hog farm protest: "Incoming messages from Yankton protest:

I am Oitancan Zephier, a former police officer of the Yankton Sioux Tribe, combat veteran of Afghanistan and a father. Last week I quit my job when the protests started over the building of a hog farm by a corporation on private land surrounded by tribal lands. I quit because the Bureau of Indian Affairs will not help us. They stand and watch us get tossed in jail. The filth of the pigs will effect every part of our Indian people here.
There is a headstart school 2 miles away from the hog farm. There is a kindergarten through 12th grade school 4 miles away. There is a day care a couple miles away from the site. It is a prejudice act granted by the state of South Dakota to these pig farm owners. We need your help. If this is completed they will assume jurisdiction of all that surrounds them. The already began taking our tribal road, which we have intensely fought for 2 weeks now.
I have been thrown in jail while on our Indian land by a state officer. That is wrong!
I am begging you for your help. If you can, please publish the cry for help below in any way you can.
Contact me if you can help; or please forward this on to anyone who can help us."

FOXNews.com - Man Posts YouTube Videos Claiming to Have Infected Thousands With AIDS - Science News | Science & Technology | Technology News

Editor's Comment: This stupid bastard is just one recent example of how women are and can be viewed by a male dominated society that uses capitalism as a motive to demean not just our sisters but an entire demographic of a people. Any American African male, or female for that matter, that finds this sick nebbish funny and his brand of humour part and parcel of the Black experience in America needs to go to the mountain and get focused. There is something incredibly wrong with your mind. Colonialism perhaps?

As a man of colour living in the belly of the colonialist beast in North America, I am extremely concerned with this story. It is apparent to me that even the women willing to work in the sex industry are not immune from shock-advertising aimed at driving viewers to visit adult websites expressly to witness women being intentionally infected with the largest health crisis in modern times. And the sadder fact is that I know in my heart of hearts that members of the corporate Hip-Hop infused American African population is laughing about this and will defend their apathetic chuckling by stating emphatically that it was all just a joke.

Is it?

How many of our African, Latino and Asian sisters have been infected by men who either were ignorant or deliberately silent about their health status before before engaging in sexual activity with unsuspecting females? I am not leaving Euro-American women out of the loop, but the issue is paramount to being Black in America. Report after report after report has been released showing rising statistics of STD infection across the national spectrum, but ethnic minorities are experiencing genocidal rates not seen in the European or Euro-American populations. Aside from a brief spate of Syphilis infection in Europe recently, HIV/AIDS infection rates hetero and homosexual have remained fairly low in relation to what is happening around people of colour.

Let's face it, ignorance of what STD's and HIV?AIDS really are is purposefully lacking in communities of colour and poor Euro-American areas of the U.S. If pre-natal care, a human right in most industrialized colonial nations is not an issue the American system deems important, it seems reasonable that to these same commissars and their theological attack dogs that teaching non-minority young and old about the perils of unprotected sex or the evidence that not only is HIV/AIDS a serious issue but that there is a strong documented possibility that the disease was created to immaculately eliminate targeted sectors of the world community is equally not important.

They would rather focus on chat show condemnation's of the adult entertainment industry rather than the divide between erotica and the deliberate social reinforcement of institutionalised gender disparities and the shocking anti-African racism promoted in such commerce. What this fool did in effect was make the co-existing issues of STD transmission, internalised racism and female humiliation a joke on one of the largest Internet cesspools in cyberspace history, YouTube. He presented for public consumption a nightmarish vision of American African male misogyny that will be further manifested as violence against our women and females in general. As a proud Original Man conscious of the debt I forever owe to the woman that gave birth to me, I in no uncertain terms condemn this individual and all those who find this brand of humour as legitimate social commentary.

With everything else going on on this planet, how dare this self-colonialising dolt this is the last thing women of colour need to have to cope with. Isn't the pain of watching their men sink to the level of the plantation overseer on international media enough? I'm asking, no demanding that mt brothers across the 4th World and the ghettos of the American landscape to stop it.

Enough is enough. Man up and stop the nonsense.

UPDATE: Trashman's AIDS claims just trash-talk:
An American named "Trashman", who sparked global fury by appearing in YouTube clips boasting of deliberately infecting thousands of women with AIDS, has been revealed as a faker.

The masked African-American man claimed to have infected over 1500 women with the deadly HIV virus, but the move was all a desperate effort to garner publicity for his porn sites. FOXNews.com - Man Posts YouTube Videos Claiming to Have Infected Thousands With AIDS - Science News | Science & Technology | Technology News: "A man has posted videos on YouTube in which he claims to have deliberately 'infected' thousands of women with AIDS.

The masked-man - who calls himself “Trashman” and speaks with an American accent in a series of clips posted on the video-sharing website - claims to have 'infected' between 1200 and 1500 with the disease.

In the videos, Trashman reads the names and ages of some of the women he claims to have had unprotected sex with.

The videos - one of which has been viewed 195,000 times - also feature a web address to a “gangsta” portal filled with pornography and where Trashman has a profile.

In the first video, Trashman reads from a list of women he claims to have infected.

“Today I’m doing a show about something that’s more important than killing rappers,” he says.

“This here (piece of paper) that I hold in my hand is a list of women who I actually infected with AIDS on purpose.

“So if I call your name and if you just happen to be on my ‘I got the AIDS from that n***er’ list', then God bless you.”"

The Illinois senator won only 38 percent of the white vote in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, a big part of the reason he lost the state. And it's not just the Keystone State.

Even in Iowa, where his kickoff victory had supporters reveling in his ability to win an overwhelmingly white state, he took only 33 percent of the white vote in a multi-candidate field."

An Evening in Philly with Obama | The News is NowPublic.com

An Evening in Philly with Obama | The News is NowPublic.com: "As I stood on the Mall on April 18, 2008, I considered the contradictory circumstances that seemed to merge at that place as I listened to Senator Barack Obama as he addressed the enthusiastic crowd that had waited for more than three hours for his arrival. By the way, unlike conditions at previously reported on Obama events, security that night was tight.Washington Square, now named for the United States of America's first president, was formerly known as Congo Square, an area spanning east and west, between 6th and 7th Streets and Walnut and Locust Streets, north and south, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Congo Square is said to be one of William Penn's original five city squares. Penn is credited with claiming land that established the founding of the state of Pennsylvania, translated to mean ' Penn's woods', in 1681. Congo Square is located approximately five blocks from the rally site where the senator spoke, on Friday evening, to the largest crowd assembled to date during his campaign to seek the Democratic Party's nomination for president of the United States. The crowd was estimated at over 35,000, on Independence Mall, at 5th and Market Streets. During Colonial times, Congo Square was the place men, women and children of African descent were auctioned and sold to the highest bidder, later to be transported to new destinations after sales were complete. Independence Mall, the location of the rally, is where Independence Hall stands, the hall where landholders and property owning male descendants of Britain met, almost two hundred thirty two years ago, to hammer out their differences, signing a document, declaring their right to ".... life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness....", giving birth to a nation, a nation, surprisingly acknowledged by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, with a " birth defect", referring to slavery. That night, Senator Obama stated: The union they created has endured for two centuries not because we’re perfect, but because we’ve always been perfectible – because each generation of Americans has been willing to stand up and sacrifice and do what’s necessary to inch us closer to the ideals at the core of our founding promise – equality, and liberty, and opportunity for all who seek it. During colonial times, Congo Square was also known as a place where freedmen of African descent and the enslaved congregated to drum and make music, sharing food and stories of a life left behind virtually in another world. The significance of the site of the rally and its proximity to Congo Square seemed a noteworthy juxtaposition and fitting place for a gathering of all types of Americans where the rally's featured speaker represents a culmination of hopes and aspirations to so many Americans of all persuasions, with him being a son of Africa and America. An update:As of April 23, 2008, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a city and a county, with 98% of the vote counted, results are as follows: Senator Barack Obama 65%, Senator Hillary Clinton 35% "

American Chronicle | History of the Cherokee Freedmen

American Chronicle | History of the Cherokee Freedmen: "The Cherokee Freedmen Story as an article was submitted by email to American Chronicle as a response to an article on the issue, but it was never published so today I resubmit it via the process.

The Cherokee Freedmen are the descendants of African slaves who played an integral role in the Cherokee Culture during the 1700's and1800's. Many of the Cherokee Freedmen Descendants of today are Cherokee by blood, many with actually more than the Thin bloods White Cherokee that are trying to eliminate them from the Membership of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma (CNO).

However, the Freedmen were listed on the Dawes Commission Rolls during the enumeration of the Cherokee Nation by the Dawes Commission by an Act of Congress in 1893 and ending and the final Roll Closed by the U.S. Congress in 1906, in a Section called the Freedmen Roll that did not classify them as Cherokee by Blood, BUT, simply because their features displayed characheristics of African traits, i.e. black skin and nappy hair...it must be noted they were NOT classed any less Cherokee than any of the other entinicities or classes of Cherokee on the other sections of the Rolls, which has led to modern controversies, or it should be said the outright lie and fabrication of misinformation by Chad Smith and cohorts, as to whether or not the Freedmen can claim they are Cherokee.

However, near the end of the civil war in 1863 the National council of the Cherokee knew what loosing the war on the side of the southern States would mean, and many of the slaves were actually Cherokee family members, and to protect them as family, the Cherokee Nation freed their slaves by an emancipation act and under the reconstruction Treaty of 1866 and by amendment to the 1839 Constitution in the same year of 1866 See "Article III, Section 5", made them Citizen of the Nation by these two acts of law, irregardless of blood. And the Cherokee Freedmen were classified by the United States as Indians, and lived along side their bretheren as Cherokee through the good an bad times into the the early years of Oklahoma Statehood...In 1880 the Cherokee decided there needed to be an enumeration of the people to show who was a Citizen, and how they were classified, a fact that Chad Smith attempts to negate with lies an mis-information, the black Cherokee at the time of this census that were blood family members were simply listed as Cherokee, and the Black freed slaves that the 1866 Treaty had made citizens were classed as ADOPTED NEGRO or COLORED, absolutely none the less Cherokee, than the other adopted Tribal members and White People."

The Black Commentator - Senator Hillary Clinton Must Explain The Praising of a Group of KKK Supporters

The Black Commentator - Senator Hillary Clinton Must Explain The Praising of a Group of KKK Supporters: "Note: In a year of political absurdities, where one candidate--Senator Obama--is being held accountable for his friends and acquaintances and everything that they have said and done during their life times, we have stumbled across a problem. Had Senator Clinton not been as self-righteous in her attacks on Senator Obama concerning his associates, including Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Chicago activist Bill Ayers, the following would probably be a footnote and blemish--albeit significant--on the Presidency of one William Jefferson Clinton. Yet, insofar as Senator Clinton has decided to hold her opponent responsible for the words and actions of others, we pose this question: should Senator Clinton be careful where she throws bricks?"

------------------------------------------------

Now Senator Hillary Clinton (D, NY) has some explaining to do.

BlackCommentator.com has learned that Bill Clinton, while president, repeatedly praised the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC). This is an organization that many, including some whites and a former U.S. senator from Illinois, have called racist.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate groups, the UDC is a neo-Confederate organization which is affiliated with such white supremacist groups as the Council of Conservative Citizens and the League of the South. Formed in 1894, the UDC limits its membership to women who are related to Confederate veterans of the “War Between the States.”

In 2000, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that "[a]lthough the UDC promotes an image of genteel Southern ladies…its publications” tell a different story, adding that recently the “UDC’s president, Mrs. William Wells, shared the podium with…white supremacist lawyer Kirk Lyons.”

Life Expectancy Drops for Some U.S. Women

For the first time since the Spanish influenza of 1918, life expectancy is falling for a significant number of American women.
taset S1. Change in Probability of Dying in Specific Age Ranges, with Counties Grouped on the Basis of Level of Change in Life Expectancy, Divided by Disease

In nearly 1,000 counties that together are home to about 12 percent of the nation's women, life expectancy is now shorter than it was in the early 1980s, according to a study published today.

The downward trend is evident in places in the Deep South, Appalachia, the lower Midwest and in one county in Maine. It is not limited to one race or ethnicity but it is more common in rural and low-income areas. The most dramatic change occurred in two areas in southwestern Virginia (Radford City and Pulaski County), where women's life expectancy has decreased by more than five years since 1983.

The trend appears to be driven by increases in death from diabetes, lung cancer, emphysema and kidney failure. It reflects the long-term consequences of smoking, a habit that women took up in large numbers decades after men did, and the slowing of the historic decline in heart disease deaths.

TheStar.com | columnists | Apology to native people must end 'denial of truth'

TheStar.com | columnists | Apology to native people must end 'denial of truth': "Phil Fontaine

In the Oct. 16, 2007, Throne Speech, your government promised to apologize for residential schooling for First Nations, Métis and Inuit children which led to profound harms. Every expression and word of the apology will be of great importance to our peoples and will be carefully studied, as will its timing and place. After 150 years of waiting, nothing less than a complete, unencumbered and honest apology for this dark period in our shared history will do.

An apology acceptable to survivors must be offered in the House of Commons where the Prime Minister will address Parliament, the nation and the world. It must be an event as significant and meaningful as the apology to our brothers and sisters of the Stolen Generations of Australia, and our fellow Japanese Canadians. It must incorporate the ceremony and dignity that such a symbolic and historic occasion requires. The galleries must be filled with survivors, their families, as well as church and government representatives who will bear witness.

The content of the apology must end denial of truth and history. It must raise the awareness about the residential school policy and its disastrous consequences, admit that it was wrong, accept responsibility and provide us with solemn assurances that it will never happen again.

At minimum, the apology will acknowledge that a succession of governments systematically attempted to "kill the Indian in the child" by enforcing policies which separated children from families, prohibited the use of our languages and cultures, and indoctrinated us to believe that who we were and where we came from was not good enough for Canadian citizenship. It must acknowledge that the policies caused profound harm, loss and grief to individuals, families, communities and subsequent generations and recognize the need for reconciliation and healing.

It should specify that several generations of children were deprived of day-to-day parental love and support; that mothers, fathers, grandparents, extended family members and communities were equally deprived of their children; that health care, nutrition and emotional needs of the children were neglected; that many lost the ability to speak our languages, practise our cultures; that thousands were scarred for life from deliberate physical, sexual and psychological abuse; and that some never returned home leaving their families to mourn their passing not even knowing where they were buried."

The Angry Arab News Service/وكالة أنباء العربي الغاضب: "'The United States has less than 5 percent of the world’s population. But it has almost a quarter of the world’s prisoners. Indeed, the United States leads the world in producing prisoners, a reflection of a relatively recent and now entirely distinctive American approach to crime and punishment. Americans are locked up for crimes — from writing bad checks to using drugs — that would rarely produce prison sentences in other countries. And in particular they are kept incarcerated far longer than prisoners in other nations. Criminologists and legal scholars in other industrialized nations say they are mystified and appalled by the number and length of American prison sentences. The United States has, for instance, 2.3 million criminals behind bars, more than any other nation, according to data maintained by the International Center for Prison Studies at King’s College London. China, which is four times more populous than the United States, is a distant second, with 1.6 million people in prison. (That number excludes hundreds of thousands of people held in administrative detention, most of them in China’s extrajudicial system of re-education through labor, which often singles out political activists who have not committed crimes.)''"

Indianz.Com > News > Newseum largely ignores Indian media

Visitors of the Newseum in Washington, D.C., won't find much about the Indian press, Indian Country Today reports.

During a media preview of the $4.5 million facility, ICT found less than five examples of historical Indian newspapers, no mention of contemporary Indian media and references to only nine prominent Indian journalists.

'It sounds like we once again got shortchanged,'' Denny McAuliffe, the founder of Reznet and a member of the Osage Nation of Oklahoma, told ICT.

Mark Trahant, a member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes of Idaho and a prominent journalist, advised the Newseum about the Indian media. He acknowledged more needs to be done to represent the historical and contemporary Indian press.

Wilma Mankiller, the former chief of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, sits on the Newseum's board.

Terence Yellowback, 27, was drinking with friends April 5 at his home on the Manto Sipi Cree Nation (formerly God's River First Nation), about 850 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.

'Everybody got drunk, I guess,' he said. 'A few things happened that shouldn't that shouldn't be happening … just, what happens at parties.'

An argument broke out, and Yellowback left the house to cool off. He was carrying a table leg, he told CBC News on Tuesday.

RCMP were in the area responding to a complaint about an assault."

Two Inmates Slain In Prison Riot Instigated By White Supremacists

As many as 150 to 200 inmates — armed with homemade weapons including rocks, wood, plastic and sharpened metal — took part in a massive brawl at a Florence prison Sunday, federal prison officials said this afternoon.

Two prisoners killed in the fight were identified as Brian Scott Kubik, serving a 15-year sentence for possession of a firearm as an ex-felon, and Phillip Lee Hooker, serving a 25-year sentence for armed robbery.

Hooker was 43 and black, but it's not clear where he was from. Kubik was 41 and white. He picked up his latest felony-in-possession charge in Oregon. […]

U.S. Attorney for Colorado Troy Eid said Sunday that authorities think white supremacist inmates, who targeted minorities, instigated the fight. "They were acting provocatively on (Adolph) Hitler's birthday," Eid said. […]
